We start explaining to the students that there are many languages in the world while we show them a picture with a representation of the most spoken languages around it. (Put it in a visible place)
Secondly we will explain them that this picture represents the most spoken languages in the world. Circles are bigger as there are more numbers of speakers of that language.
v MATERIAL/RESOURCES: Picture of the most spoken languages.
2º ACT.
In the first place we will explain to the pupils that we are going to play a game called: “guess the idiom, guess the word.” and the entire class has to participate.
We will have prepared and printed some words written in different languages (one card for each word). There are 8 words (in order: Casa – amigo – perro – hola – nombre – hora – adios – colegio.) and each one has been written 4 times in different languages.
The game consists in that we are going to show them the same word (written in 4 languages) (one by one) and they have to guess the language in which is written the word and try to find out the meaning.
* (we start showing them the cards with the most difficult languages like Chinese, Japanese, etc. and we end for example with Portuguese, Italian, etc. where is easier for them guess the meaning of the word)
We will guide and help students during the process and at the end of every word (written in 4 languages) we confirm or correct it.
v MATERIAL/RESOURCES: Cards with different words in different languages (Word card), blackboard.
3º ACT.
We start dividing the class in 8 groups. Each group is a language represented by a color.
We will put a world map in the blackboard and will give some little stickers (gomets) to each group (one color representing each language). Each group has to put in the map (by turns) the stickers in the places (or countries) where they think that idiom is the prevailing language.
We will guide and help students during the process.
